Rogers' Rescues was founded in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey in May of 2002. It was started by five individuals that shared a common bond: a love of dogs.
Especially concerned about animals discarded due to age, health, behavioral or other issues, their goal is to help adopt out as many dogs as possible, connecting those neglected or mistreated animals with a new family and a loving home.
Although they originally built their own software system to track and manage all the dogs in their care, the administrative burden associated with its upkeep was ultimately too much to handle.
That’s when Roger’s Rescue discovered Buzz!
Originally, Roger’s Rescue built their own animal rescue software using Drupal, a popular open-source content management system, or CMS. Once administrators realized that the homegrown system they had programmed themselves was too costly to maintain, they formed a committee to find a solution.
They researched a number of animal rescue software options and ultimately chose Buzz after meeting with Buzz founder Laurie Paquette on a demo. They realized they shared the same passion for saving animals as Laurie, and what’s more, that Buzz was capable of assisting small rescues like themselves.
Other animal rescue software options, especially ones originally designed for larger, centralized locations like shelters, usually treat fostering as a secondary concern. Buzz is always happy to make tailored adjustments and customizations to ensure that every rescue finds success, no matter their size.
One of Roger’s Rescues’ major pain points was administrative.
In the old days, they would print, sign, scan and sometimes mail contracts to their adopters. Then they would wait. Payments worked much the same way, with successful adopters literally mailing checks to Roger’s’ Treasurer, leading to delays that lasted months.
As anyone that runs a rescue knows well, delays like this can lead to disaster. Reducing the friction of adoption makes it easier to save more lives, and that’s where Buzz came in.
With all the information in one place, Buzz’s functionality made it possible for Roger’s Rescues to do almost everything without ever leaving the system. They could vet and approve online applications, send out contracts for signature, and process payments quickly and easily.

Buzz was designed from the ground-up for foster-based rescues, and it shows. For example, Roger’s Rescues prefers that their fosters all train on the system in advance, even if they’re not fostering a dog at the moment. Buzz’s functionality is such that even new volunteers find it very easy to learn.
Rescue Directors and administrators know that volunteer time is at a premium, and shouldn’t be wasted. That’s why when certain breeds come in, they know not to put those pets on PetFinder right away, as it will overload the person charged with vetting adoption applications. “A 10-year old Pitbull with medical problems is not the same as a 1-year old Yorkie,” Amanda explained. ”One may not get adopted right away, and the other will have 35 applications within an hour.”
With Buzz, all it takes is one click of the mouse to hide a new dog from the website or PetFinder, and one click to put it back up. This reduces the administrative burden of the rescue, allowing volunteers to focus their energy where it matters most.
