Introducing Yaqui Animal Rescue

Yaqui Animal Rescue is an 80-acre ranch in Sullivan City, Texas named in honor of founder Sonia Venecia’s Yaqui Indian heritage. This non-profit, no-kill animal rescue currently cares for 250 animals, including cats, dogs, horses, cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and turtles.

Operating as a registered 105(c)(3) since 2013, Sonia and her team have rescued thousands of stray animals over the years. With the help of Buzz to the Rescues, the Yaqui Animal Rescue continues to fulfill its mission by caring for animals in and around the Rio Grande Valley area and connecting them to forever homes.

Before Buzz: Stress and Complexity

Only 10 miles from the Mexican border, the Rio Grande Valley has an overwhelming number of abandoned animals. To help rescue and care for those unwanted creatures, the Yaqui Animal Rescue began their work by cobbling together a number of different tools, including:

Unfortunately, the complexity involved in rescuing and housing so many animals made it impossible to continue without some kind of organized animal rescue software system.

Buzz also helped Yaqui get more organized. “Before Buzz, we didn't even have all of our pets on the website,” explained Ceronni. “Now it's a priority that every single animal we have goes into the system before we start posting them to social media.” Having good descriptions to go with animal photos and a strong Call to Action was also critical, suggestions and best practices Buzz was happy to share as well.
